Practicing
Regular practice at home is essential to improvement on a musical instrument. The student and I will discuss an individual practice goal for each week and the students will receive a practice chart to help them keep track of their practice time. Typical practice goals needed for improvement are as follows:
- Beginners (for the first year) - 15-20 minutes a day, 5 days a week (in addition to lesson time)
- Intermediate -30 minutes a day, 5 days a week (in addition to lesson time)
- Advanced (upper high school/college prep) - 45 minutes-1 hour a day, 5-6 days a week (in addition to lesson time)
Lessons
Students should arrive promptly when their lesson time begins and with all lesson materials (notebook, lesson books, practice chart, flashcards, etc.). Lessons are currently taught at our home (894 E. Coach Rd., Palatine, IL). During the lesson I will hear the assignment from the previous week and provide feedback and instruction. When students finish an assignment, showing they understand and can correctly perform it, they will proceed to the next piece in the lesson book.
Missed lessons
Please Notify me ahead of time when a trip or other commitments prevent you from coming to a lesson. Missed lessons with no notification within 24 hours before the lesson will still result in a charge. Exceptions include unforeseen emergencies such as illness or a family emergency. I will notify you ahead of time if I will be unable to teach on a certain day. In the event that we have a scheduled lesson and I do not show up, I will give you an extra free lesson.
Payment
I accept either cash or check, weekly or monthly payments and kindly request payement within a month of each lesson.
Rates:
- 30 minute lesson - $20
- 45 minute lesson - $30
- 60 minute lesson (or two siblings each having a 30 minute lesson)-$35
My Bio
I graduated from Wheaton College in 2009 with a degree in Music Education. I have taken piano since the age of 6. In fourth grade I started flute, and had the honor of playing in the District high school honors band my Junior and Senior years, in addition to placing in the Illinois All State Honors Bad my Senior year. In college I studied flute with Dr. Jennie Brown as my primary instrument, giving a full senior recital in 2008. I kept up my piano playing on my own but was able to take organ lessons for a year from Dr. Zimmerman. I did my student teaching at Krejci Academy, a school for students with disabilities in Naperville, and Waterbury Elementary School in Roselle. I have taught privately since 2005, and in addition I work part time in the STARS Disability Ministry of College Church, where I teach an instrumental class and a choir for teens and adults with developmental disabilities. I occasionally play keyboard for the worship team at my church, The Chapel Mundelein.
